Dear NEA,
Today I received this in the mail from you:

In response, I would just like to say three things:
1. This makes 19 times you’ve contacted Josh Pullen to try to persuade him to vote for Barack Obama (through 9 pieces of mail and 10 phone calls). Once was fine, twice was tolerable, but 19 contacts is ridiculous.
2. Your staffer should at least know how to spell Senator Obama’s first name correctly.
3. Josh Pullen, this person you’ve contacted 19 times, is MY SON. HE IS SIX YEARS OLD.
Please make it stop.

#1. 19? Good Lord.
#2. I’m also shocked at how many Obama supporters spell his name wrong. Really, it’s not that tough.
#3. The NEA sure starts ‘em young, huh?

So I’m guessing they collected his name as part of your registration information for participation in the association, and automatically added it to their “contact” list without checking his age. Is this a pattern or just a mistake?

Actually, If they’re sending postcards, Josh could make a nice collection or collage. Not to mention the thrill of getting mail, which can be considerable for a six year old. Have you considered asking Sarah Paliin if she’d like to match the total?

It could be worse. His last name was correct. See the Rensaleer County, NY Board of Elections for a worse mistake.

If the Dad is an NEA member and a teacher (both of which may not be true) then it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. It so reminds me of the movie ‘Brazil’.
Time for the tea party to begin.

That was probably not a staffer who wrote the postcard to Joshua Pullen. It was probably an NEA educator member who was a delegate to the NEA Convention.
I was a delegate at the NEA Convention last July, and I myself must have written about a dozen pre-addressed postcards with essentially the same message.
I did, however, spell Barack Obama’s name correctly, since I am, after all, a teacher.

I wish i had the money they spent on postal. I can use it to pay my fuel bill.
